Routine maintenance: Have brakes and steering serviced regularly to prevent heat transfer to the tyres; choose reputable FEDIMA tires that meet load and speed ratings.

Truck Tyre Maintenance in Hot Weather

1.Essential Tyre Pressure Management

• Adjust the pressure to the standard value indicated on the label on the door or B-pillar whilst the tyres are cold (after standing for at least 3 hours). In summer, you may make minor adjustments within ±10% of the standard value; avoid deflating hot tyres.

• Install a tyre pressure monitoring system. It is normal for tyre pressure to rise when tyres are hot; deflating hot tyres is strictly prohibited to prevent insufficient pressure when they cool.

• Overloading causes tyre temperatures to rise and significantly increases deformation and heat generation; overloading is strictly prohibited.

2.Scientific Cooling and Parking

• On long journeys, stop at a service area every 2–3 hours and allow the tyres to cool naturally for at least 30 minutes; fans may be used to assist with heat dissipation.

• Avoid direct sunlight; prioritise shaded areas or underground car parks; if parked outdoors, use a sunshade.

• If tyre temperature exceeds 65°C, reduce speed and rest; never pour cold water directly onto the tyres, as sudden temperature changes can cause the tyre carcass to crack.

 3.Frequent Checks and Damage Management

• Walk-around inspection before and after driving: remove stones and glass from the tread; check for bulges, cracks or cuts on the sidewalls.

• Tread depth: ≥3mm is safer; tyres must be replaced once the legal limit of 1.6mm is reached.

• Rotate tyres and perform four-wheel alignment/wheel balancing every 8,000–10,000 km to reduce uneven wear and heat build-up.

• Replace tyres after 5 years (check the last four digits of the DOT code for the production date), even if the tread depth is still adequate.

4.Emergency Response and Routine Maintenance

• If abnormal tyre pressure or temperature is detected: keep the vehicle straight → slow down gradually → pull over → switch on hazard warning lights and place warning triangles → address the issue once the tyre has cooled down; do not pour water on the tyre or deflate it.

• Routine maintenance: Have brakes and steering serviced regularly to prevent heat transfer to the tyres; choose reputable FEDIMA tires that meet load and speed ratings.
